AUBURN, Ala. – A five run eighth inning put the finishing touches on a 12-2 No. 21 Auburn victory over the UAB baseball team on Tuesday night at Plainsman Park. Auburn (26-12) struck in the first inning as it scored its first run on a bases loaded walk follow by a two-out two RBI single to take a 3-0 lead. UAB (16-19) responded in the top of the second as Carter Pharis hit a one-out double down the left field line before swiping his ninth base of the season. Stephen Dobbs singled into right field to score Pharis and cut the lead to 3-1. In the top of the third the Blazers strung together three consecutive singles as Brett Blackwood hit the third one up the middle to score Colton Schultz and cut the Auburn lead to one. Riley Davis entered the game in the top of the sixth and gave up three runs on two hits with a UAB error as Auburn extended its lead to 6-2. The Tigers tacked on another run in the bottom of the seventh as Conor Davis collected his third hit of the contest to score Edouard Julien and extend their lead to five. Auburn scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the eighth to seal the game, 12-2. Elliot Anderson earned the win for Auburn as he no-hit the Blazers over four innings with just one walk and seven strikeouts. Isaiah Gonzales-Montoya took the loss as the UAB starter was unable to make it out of the first inning giving up three runs and a walk with one hit over 0.2 innings of work. Calvert came in the game in relief of Gonzales-Montoya and threw a season high 4.1 innings no hitting the No. 21 Tigers with five strikeouts and issued just one walk. Pharis led the Blazers at the plate with one hit and a run scored. UAB returns to Regions Field this weekend with a three-game series against WKU.
