Blazers Announce Three New Signees

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB head softball coach Amanda Ellis announced the addition of three newcomers as part of UAB's 2018 signing class on Wednesday afternoon.
"We're extremely thrilled about all three of these young ladies coming into our program and the impact they are going to have," Ellis said. "They are very talented and we look forward to them joining us in Birmingham."
Reece Martin, Brett Parker and Debora Fernanda make up the signing class. The new Blazers will be eligible to compete starting in the 2018-19 academic year.
Reece Martin
Martin is an outfielder from Portland, Ore. and has led Westview High School to three-straight Metro League Championships. They have also finished runner up in the state finals her freshman and junior seasons. In 2017, Martin was named First Team All-League and Second Team All-State. She also won the 6A State Championship Player of the Game award. As a junior, Martin hit .500 with 22 stolen bases and was second in the state in hits (58), third in runs scored (44) and fifth in stolen bases (22).
Brett Parker
Parker is an infielder from Opelika, Ala. playing at Lee-Scott Academy. Prior to Lee-Scott Academey, Parker led Beauregard High School to a Regional Championship in 2015 and an Area Championship in 2017. Parker won the Beauregard Slugger Award in 2017 after hitting .406 with 10 home runs, 13 doubles and driving in 38 RBI. As a junior, Parker was named All-Area Player and made the South All-Star Team.
Debora Fernanda
Fernanda join UAB as a transfer from Chipola College in Marianna, Fla. The Pereira Barreto, Brazil native attended Coronel Francisco Schmidt High School and won the Big Bat award as a sophomore and junior. Fernanda lead her team to the postseason those seasons as well. At Chipola College, she played first base and led the team to back-to-back conference championships. Fernanda was named to the All-Conference First team in 2017 while hitting .343 with 50 RBI, 44 runs scored and 41 stolen bases.
