BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB track and field team heads west to Mississippi State to take part in the Bulldog Relays March 23-24. It'll be back-to-back competition weekends for the Blazers as they look to continue the momentum they gained last weekend.
The meet begins on Friday at 11 a.m. with the women's hammer throw and the track events start at 3 p.m. with the shuttle hurdle relay. Saturday starts off with the women's discus throw at 11 a.m., while the 4x100-meter relay kicks off the track races at noon.
The 4x100-meter relay team made up of Joy Frierson, Shelbi White, Taylor Jones and Ebony Tolliver won the event last weekend at the South Alabama Jaguar Classic with a time of 45.61 seconds.
It was the fastest opening time in more than 10 years and was close to breaking into the top five all-time quickest times by a UAB team. Meanwhile, Keila Robertson and Ali Cichos both turned in strong performances in the long jump and 100-meter hurdles.
Robertson finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 5.58-meters (18' 33/4''). Cichos also placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, running a time of 14.61 seconds.
From the Coaches Desk:
"It was a great opening weekend with some quick times put up and what I really liked to see was everyone competing hard," head coach Kurt Thomas said. "That was our first outdoor meet so there is plenty to clean up and that started in practice and now we need to see it carry over into the competition."
