Men’s Golf Looks to Continue Success at Schenkel Invitational

STATESBORO, Ga. - Coming off a top-five finish in its last outing, the UAB men's golf team looks to continue that success this weekend, March 16-18, at the Schenkel Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern at Forest Heights Country Club.
The Blazers will be competing in a loaded field this weekend which consists of two teams ranked inside the nation's top five in the latest Golfstat rankings. Along with UAB, the field includes No. 4 Florida, No. 5 Vanderbilt, College of Charleston, East Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, Iowa, Kentucky, NC State, Notre Dame, Mississippi State and Richmond.
UAB's lineup for this weekend's action in comprised of William Walker III, R.J. Keur, Murray Naysmith, John Hayden and Taylor Eyster. Freshman Nick Robillard will compete as an individual as well.
Naysmith is coming off a 10th place finish at the Palmetto Invitational in which he fired a tournament record 63 in the second round. The Blazers had four of their top five players finish within the top 25 at the Palmetto Invite as Keur (T14), John Hayden (T17) and Walker III (T22) also had solid outings.
Keur and Walker III are both currently ranked inside the nation's top 250 individual golfers and will look to continue their strong play as they head towards postseason play. Keur is currently ranked No. 100, while Walker III is No. 231.
"This is a huge tournament for us in terms of qualifying for postseason play," head coach Mike Wilson said. "We played very well last week in tough conditions and I am excited to see how we will follow that up against a field of tremendously talented teams."
The three-day tournament begins on Friday morning with 18 holes, followed by 18 on Saturday and an additional 18 on Sunday. Fans can follow live results the entire weekend by clicking here.
