Panthers Take Series With Win in Game Three

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB baseball team was unable to manufacture enough offense as it fell 4-2 to Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon at Young Memorial Field.
"Tanner (Graham) was good but for that one inning," head coach Brian said. "Milwaukee had 10 of its first 13 hitters swinging at the first pitch so we were trying to get the ball off the plate, but Tanner left balls on so that's how the first three runs were scored. But he really settled down and kept us in the game and pitched good enough to win. We have to be better at the plate to have a chance, two runs just isn't enough, and we need to be able to produce more than that."
Milwaukee (4-10) struck first in the third inning as it strung together four consecutive hits off of Tanner Graham to take a 3-0 lead.
UAB (6-8) responded in bottom half of the third after Stephen Dobbs led off the frame with a double to left center field. Two batter later, Tyler Tolbert hit a RBI single to score Dobbs and cut the score to 3-1.
The Blazers struck again in the fifth inning with another leadoff hit off the bat of Blake Johnson. A walk from Tolbert moved Johnson up 90-feet before a sacrifice bunt from Price Visintainer landed him on third. Carter Pharis drew a bases loaded walk to score Johnson and put UAB back within one, but the Blazers would not be able to move any closer.
Oakland Scanlan hit a homerun to right field in the eighth inning to provide the Panthers some insurance and give the game its final 4-2 score.
Patrick Tomfohrde earned the win for the Panthers while Brandon Parr was credited with his first save of the season. Graham (0-2) took the loss for the Blazers.
Offensively, the Blazers were only able to tally three hits but finished the game with no errors. Dobbs led UAB at the plate finishing the day 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
UAB closes its eight game homestand on Tuesday night when it welcome Troy to Regions Field. First pitch between the Blazers and Trojans is set for 6:30 p.m.
