WHITEWATER, Wisc. – The UAB bowling team moved in the polls this week, jumping to No. 13 in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) rankings. It is the highest ranking in school history.
"This team continues to impress me every time they step on the lanes," head coach Michelle Crews said. "With this long break that we have had since Kutztown, we are working really hard on our physical games and execution of better shot making both on strike and spare shots.
"The girls are having a very steady and consistent year. We are holding our own against the best in the country. However, to really move up and make a run for the national championship, we have to cut down the mistakes we have in each match. This team is working hard as we get ready for the important part of our season."
UAB has amassed a 47-28 record so far this season including finishing first at the Hornet Classic and fifth at the AllState Sugarbowl Collegiate Bowling Championship.
Taylor Russell has been a consistent force this season playing in all 30 of the Blazers' matches holding a team-best 209.77 average. She took home individual honors at the Hornet Classic and then was named to the Mid-Winter Classic All-Tournament Team after finishing third.
Nebraska remained in first place in the NTCA Poll taking 26 of the 43 first place votes. McKendree, Arkansas State, Vanderbilt and Sam Houston State round out the top-five.
UAB returns to the lanes Feb. 16-18 with a trip to Houston, Texas to compete in the SFA Jacks Invitational.
