UAB Closes Out the Trojan Classic with a 6-2 Win Over Murray State

TROY, Ala. – The Blazers wrapped up the Trojan Classic with a 6-2 win over Murray State Sunday afternoon at the Troy Softball Complex.
UAB (6-9) got six runs off 10 hits as the offense got going early with a run in the first when Analyse Petree, who reached on a fielder's choice, was brought home by a single to right from Rachel Rogers. The Blazers scored again in the second to extend the lead to two runs.
Megan Smith hit a leadoff double to left center field and was moved to third off a bunt single from Molli Garcia. Destini England hit a single that the catcher tried to field but had the ball roll back behind her which let Smith score from third.
The offense didn't slow down in the third inning either as UAB put up two more runs on the Racers. UAB loaded the bases with three walks and set the table for Natalie Erwin who hit a two-out single that scored Madison Millsaps and Sarah Crawford and gave the Blazers a 4-0 lead.
In the fifth, UAB added its final two runs of the game as Millsaps got the offense going with a single to center. Raina Cooper pinch ran for Millsaps and was advanced to second by Crawford. Smith doubled down the left field line which scored Cooper.
Smith was moved over to third by Garcia and Erwin drove her home with a triple to right center field. It was Erwin's second triple of the weekend.
Murray State (5-8) scored its first run of the game in the third on a passed ball and tallied its second run in the bottom of the seventh. The Racers' Maddy Feeney singled up the middle and advance to second on a sacrifice bunt. With two outs in the seventh, Murray State infielder Lille Goetz doubled to left center and scored Feeney from second.
Smith got the start in the circle for UAB and struck out the last batter of the game to secure the win for the Green and Gold. She tossed a complete game and picked up her first win of 2018 in her first start. Smith allowed just the two runs on six hits while recording three strikeouts.
Flour Blazers tallied two hits in the game; England, Millsaps, Erwin and Smith with each one picking up an RBI while Erwin had three RBI. Smith scored two runs while Millsaps also scored.
