BIRMINGHAM – Redshirt sophomores Luke Brasher and Alec Marsch of the UAB football team have been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Football Team, annually presented by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The First Team All-District 4 selection for Brasher and Marsch advance them to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, which features all other first team members from the nine districts around the country. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
"I couldn't be happier for Luke and Alec to earn such a prestigious academic award," head coach Bill Clark said. "Not only have they both been integral to our success on the field, but they excel in the classroom and truly embody what it means to be a student-athlete. I can't think of two more deserving young men to be recognized for this award."
Brasher and Marsch have been with the team since 2016 when the program was reinstated and have been exemplary student-athletes both on the field and in the classroom.
Brasher is a linebacker who holds a 3.89 as a kinesiology major. The Pell City, Ala. native plans to attend graduate school followed by PT school. Brasher has been on UAB's Dean's List every semester while in school and is a two-time recipient of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. He has appeared in all 11 games this season, primarily on special teams.
A wide receiver from Birmingham, Marsch is an accounting major focusing on industrial distribution and boasts a 3.95 GPA. He plans to pursue a career in physical therapy sales. Like Brasher, Marsch has been on UAB's Dean's List every semester and is a two-time recipient of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.
