UAB Wraps Up Fall Slate at Lakewood Ranch Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB women's tennis team will head to Bradenton, Florida to compete in one of the top fall events of season when it opens play at the Lakewood Ranch Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic.
The Blazers begin play on Friday at 8:00 a.m. (EST) and will face off with individuals from Texas Christian, Florida, Boston College, Liberty, Oklahoma State, South Florida, Central Florida, Appalachian State and Virginia Tech.
"What a great way to end the fall semester by playing in Florida," head coach Mark Tjia said. "We always like getting a chance to play programs that we don't normally see and this is such a great event and experience for our girls. Hopefully we can represent the Blazers well for the rest of the squad training at home."
UAB is returning from an outstanding performance at the Roberta Allison Invitational, where Jana Hecking opened the weekend with a 10-8 win over DePaul's Milica Tesic before earning a 6-3, 6-1 win over UT-Martin's Andrea Plantada. She also secured the win against Memphis' Katherine Cao to clinch the Shelley Godwin draw on Saturday, battling to a 3-6, 7-6(2), 6-4.
With the second seed in the Pat Morgan singles draw, Hana Sisirak won her bracket in straight sets, opening with victories over Lewis' Aleksandra Sredojevic and UT-Martin's Mizuke Sakurai before claiming the title and beating South Alabama's Leslie Soto Bustamante, who entered as the top seed in the draw.
In doubles play, Dominika Hrabalova and Jana Hecking claimed the back-draw title in the Mari Muller bracket. The Blazer duo toppled teammate Sisirak and UT-Martin's Mizuki, 6-3, before winning 6-1 over South Florida's Pellicer and Clark.
