Men’s Golf Shoots -19; Ties for Fourth Place at Hawaii Invitational

PRINCEVILLE, Hawaii – The UAB men's golf team continued its outstanding play as the Blazers shot -19 at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational and finished tied for fourth place overall in a field of 20 teams and 121 golfers.
After winning the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate two weeks ago, the Blazers now have a win-loss record of 29-3-1 in their last two tournaments. UAB (278-288-279 = 845, -19) shot nine-under in the final round to secure fourth place.
"We were in the hunt to win this event and that is what we strive for every time we tee up," head coach Mike Wilson said. "I'm really pleased with the effort of everyone on the team. Attitudes were great and it's a nice way to end the fall."
John Hayden (-8) and John Snoddy (-6) led the team and finished tied for 10th and 17th overall, respectively. Both players were under par every round, while Hayden tallied his third top-10 finish of the fall and Snoddy notched his second-consecutive top-20 finish.
William Walker III also had an impressive tournament as he was UAB's third player to finish under par at -4 overall, which included an eight-under 66 in the first round.
Sophomore Nick Robillard moved up 14 spots during Tuesday's final round with a three-under 69 and finished at even par (73-74-69 = 216, E) and in a tie for 47th place overall.
Sam Goldasich finished the tournament with a two-over 74 in both the second and third round and concluded UAB's efforts in a tie for 97th.
The Blazers tied with Cal State Fullerton for fourth place, while No. 11 Pepperdine won the tournament at -28, followed by Missouri (-26) and No. 15 Louisville (-25). UAB who was ranked No. 69 in the latest golfstat.com rankings, defeated No. 37 Ole Miss and No. 44 Purdue this week.
Individually, Blake Elliot of McNeese State held onto his lead he established in the second round and won the tournament at -18.
The Blazers concluded the fall season at 43-24-2 and will wait until February for their next tournament when they open the spring season in Goodyear, Ariz., in a tournament hosted by Loyola Maryland.
