UAB Plays Host to Louisiana Tech on Friday

BIRMINGHAM – Looking to make a move in the conference standings, the UAB volleyball team faces a crucial home match against Louisiana Tech on Friday. First serve between the Blazers and Lady Techsters is set for 7 p.m. in Bartow Arena.
UAB (11-12, 3-6 C-USA) enters the weekend one spot out of the Conference USA tournament with five matches remaining. The Blazers have been led offensively by Abby Carlile, who is averaging 2.92 kills per set for a total of 222 this season. The sophomore is third on the team in blocks with 60.
Victoria Young and Emily Rudolph have been key contributors all season as well with Young registering 161 kills, 15 service aces and 72 blocks. Rudolph, has 151 kills and 81 blocks. Rudolph is averaging 1.03 blocks per set, good for fifth in the league.
Louisiana Tech (6-18, 1-8 C-USA) enters the weekend having lost its last eight games and with its lone conference win coming against Middle Tennessee. Freshman Lara Hendricks ranks second on the team with 31 sets played in league action and leads the squad with 84 kills, averaging 2.71 kills per set.
Middle blocker Madeline Davis has 73 kills for the Lady Techsters in C-USA play, while hitting .316 and averaging 1.25 blocks per set.
"Louisiana Tech is a physical team who can really serve tough," head coach Amy Pauly said. "They will challenge us in our serve receive and we have to stay in our system to defended against them."
In charge of keeping the Green and Gold on schedule is Emily Martinez and Brianna Muller. The duo has combined for 422 digs this season and are averaging 2.95 and 2.79 digs per set, respectively. Both rank in the top 20 of Conference USA.
