UAB Closes League Play at South Carolina

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's soccer team wraps up Conference USA play at South Carolina on Friday. Kickoff between the Blazers and Gamecocks is slated for 6 p.m.
UAB (5-7-3, 2-4-1) is coming off a tough loss to Old Dominion on Sunday that ended its four game unbeaten streak. The Blazers are looking to bounce back to gain their sixth win of the season.
The Blazers have won four out their last seven games becoming the first team to win three straight for UAB since 2014 before their tie with Georgia Southern last week.
Against Old Dominion, UAB registered two shots apiece from Mathieu Laurent and Gael Mabiala. The Blazers entered the match leading C-USA in shots but was outshot 11-8 for just the third time this season.
In its last time out, South Carolina (3-9, 0-5) put up a 1-0 victory over Georgia State. The single goal came off a long shot from junior Luca Mayr in the 69th minute of play. Mayr is second on the team for goals scored this season behind Justin Sukow.
UAB and South Carolina are meeting for the 20th time in program history on Friday with the Gamecocks leading the series 13-5-1. The Gamecocks took last year's meeting 1-0.
