BIRMINGHAM – Playing in its second five-set match this season, the UAB volleyball team dropped a heartbreaker to North Texas on Sunday at Bartow Arena, falling 25-23, 21-25, 24-26, 25-20, 8-15.
Alex Kells, Victoria Young and Emma Mitchell each had over 10 kills with Kells and Mitchell posting 16 apiece, while Young finished with 13. Kells earned her fourth double-double of the season, posting a career-high 15 digs and 16 kills in the match.
Mitchell posted her sixth double-double of the year with 13 digs, tying her with Shelby Holderfield for most double-doubles on the team. The 13 digs tied Mitchell's career high set against Florida A&M earlier this season.
Holderfield set a new season high with 57 assists against the Mean Green. The sophomore setter tallied two service aces, picked up eight digs and recorded two blocks to round out her day.
"I'm proud of how they made adjustments and fought for every point the entire match," head coach Amy Pauly said. "They were confident on the court and competed really well. North Texas makes you work for everything and we still found ways to score. Emma played really well today and she makes a difference for us point-scoring wise so it was great to see her be successful."
