BIRMINGHAM – Riding the momentum of its first win over Charlotte since 2003 on Friday afternoon, the UAB women's soccer team wraps up its three-game road swing on Sunday at noon (CST) when it squares off with Old Dominion in Norfolk, Virginia.
A win on Sunday would see UAB finish its 2018 road schedule with a winning record and solidify back-to-back winning seasons on the road for the first time since the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
UAB (7-5-1, 4-2-0 C-USA) was stellar on Friday against Charlotte, putting together its best offensive effort of the season with 18 total shots, nine of which were on frame. Sophomore Kamilah Mustafa capped off the day with her fourth game-winning goal of the season in the 72nd minute to seal with 1-0 historic victory.
Mustafa paces the squad with seven goals and 15 points, while fellow striker Jamiera Lunsford leads the way in shots (22) and shots on goal (9), adding on three goals of her own. Caroline Kehrer is the only other Blazer to score this season with two goals, both of which have come in league play.
The Blazer defense has continued to impress and pitched its fifth shutout of the season on Friday night. Kelsey Daugherty continued her strong run of form on the year, coming up with eight saves against the 49ers to aid in the shutout. Daugherty needs 14 more saves to match the school record for career saves at 341.
Old Dominion (5-6-3, 2-3-1 C-USA) is coming off two overtime games, the most recent a scoreless draw against the top-ranked Florida Atlantic. The Monarchs are led by Morgan Hall, who leads the team with five goals and 10 points.
UAB and Old Dominion will meet for just the third time when they take the field on Sunday afternoon, with the all-time series tied at 1-1. The Blazers are looking for their first win over the Monarchs since 2013, when they won 2-0.
Fans will be able to catch all of the action via livestream on CUSA.tv, while live stats for Sunday's match will also be provided here.
