UAB Sends Five to ITA Southern Regional

BIRMINGHAM -The UAB women's tennis team will head to Oxford, Miss. this weekend to compete along with 16 other schools from across Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana in the ITA Southern Regional.
The Blazers will open tournament play on Friday and will close on Sunday. The championship matches will begin on Monday, Oct. 15, accordingly.
Competing for the Blazers will be senior Sophie Dodds, junior Marlene Herrmann and sophomores Megan Bertrands, Sonia Grzywocz and Jana Hecking.
UAB is coming off an impressive performance in its last outing, claiming 17 wins in both singles and doubles at Samford's Round Robin Tournament this past weekend.
The Blazers were led by Sophie Dodds, who went 3-0 in singles matches and added two more victories in doubles with her partner Hanna Sisirak.
Marlene Hermann contributed two singles wins to the teams total. Her strong performance earned recognition in the tournament as she finished play as the No. 2 Line Championship.
Megan Bertrands also claimed two wins over the weekend, while Hecking and and Sisirak each had one.
