STORYLINES:
- The Blazers look for their first 2-0 start since 1992 and their first-ever 2-0 start as Division I members. UAB is coming off a historic weekend in which 45,212 fans watched the Blazers make their return to the field and defeat in-state foe Alabama A&M, 38-7.
- Led by Tevin Crews who had seven tackles and three TFL, the UAB defense was lights out and enters week two leading Conference USA in total defense. The Blazers allowed just 183 total yards of offense against the Bulldogs and only 45 of them came in the rushing game. UAB tallied 12 tackles for loss overall which has them tied for eighth nationally.
- Quarterback A.J. Erdely threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another in the win against A&M and will lead the offense on the road in Muncie. In the backfield, Carlos Stephens emerged to lead the team with 76 rushing yards on 15 carries (5.1 YPC). Stephens' name was not even on the depth chart entering week one. Starting running back James Noble III contributed 74 yards in the victory.
- After a slow start, UAB reeled off 31 unanswered points to end the game, including outscoring A&M 28-0 in the second half.
- Ball State is coming off a 24-21 loss at Illinois, but returns to the friendly confines of Scheumann Stadium where the Cardinals have won their last seven home openers.
- The Blazers will have to contend with reigning MAC Defensive Player of the Week Anthony Winbush who compiled career-highs with seven tackles and three sacks from the defensive end position.
- Ball State marks the first MAC opponent UAB has played in school history.
