BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's soccer team returns home on Saturday night when it hosts Conference USA foe Charlotte. Kick off is slated for 7 p.m. from BBVA Compass Field.
UAB (2-3-2, 0-3-0) is coming off of a 3-2 road loss to Old Dominion on Sept. 23. The Blazers found themselves in a hole early but goals from Rami Dajani and Massimo Ferrin kept the Blazers in the match until the end.
Ferrin has been the Blazers' offensive spark this season as he ranks first on the teams in goals (3) and points (7). The sophomore is tied for sixth in the league in goals, tied for seventh in goals per game (0.4) and tied for eighth in points and points per game (1.0).
Dajani netted his first goal of the season at Old Dominion, totaling 15 goals in his UAB career. He needs six more shots to find the back of the net to crack into the top-10 in career goals in program history.
The freshman that has made the biggest impact this season for the Green and Gold is keeper James Teal. Among freshmen goalies in the NCAA this season, Teal is tied for sixth in shutouts (3), eighth in save percentage (.774) and 14th in saves per game (3.4).
Charlotte enters Saturday's match with a 3-2-2 record and are unbeaten in league play with a 1-0-1 mark. Prior to a loss to No. 6 Clemson on Tuesday night, the 49ers were riding a four game unbeaten streak.
Bruce Daniel and Tommy Madden lead Charlotte's offense with two goals apiece this season. Teddy Chaouche has assisted on a team best three goals this season and ranks fourth in the conference in assists.
Elliot Panicco and Austin Mullins have both seen time in the net this season for the 49ers with Panicco picking up the majority of the minutes. In six games he has allowed 10 goals while tallying nine saves and holds a 2-2-2 record with both wins being shutouts.
UAB and Charlotte are continuing a rivalry that dates back to 1979 with the two squads having met 31 times since. Charlotte holds the upper hand with a 19-9-4 record.
Saturday night is Scout Night at BBVA Compass Field. Tickets are available at the gate for $3 for scout troops and all scouts will receive a UAB Scout Night patch at the marketing table. The first 250 fans in attendance will receive light up thunder sticks.
