TEMPE, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Tuesday that the UAB women's tennis team was selected as one of its All-Academic Teams, and that seven Blazers were tabbed ITA Scholar-Athletes.
Blazers Sophie Dodds, Taylor Factor, Pardis Kianoush, Reghan Lynch, McKenna Root, Hana Sisirak and Natalie Voss were all tabbed ITA Scholar-Athletes.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above. All varsity letterwinners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: be a varsity letterwinner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters. The Blazers featured a cumulative 3.64 GPA last academic year.
"Being a Division I student-athlete is extremely difficult and I have always been very proud of the way our girls have handled themselves in the classroom." UAB head coach Mark Tjia said. "To be able to get seven girls recognized for their GPA is quite an achievement, and credit goes to the girls and also to our great academic staff, particularly our advisor Caitlin Callaghan."
