BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mary Warren was selected as the May 8 Conference USA Player of the Week the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Warren notched multiple hits and multiple RBI in five games this past week, including launching a grand slam to give UAB the lead in the Blazers’ come-from-behind victory over No. 23 Marshall on Saturday.
The Ocoee, Fla., native finished the week with five hits, four of them being home runs and one of those a grand slam. She posted a .333 batting average and an impressive 1.133 slugging percentage through five games.
Her home run rally got started in the first game against Middle Tennessee when she sent a three-run no doubter to centerfield to take the, 3-0, lead. The Blazers would go on to win that game, 3-1.
She posted two hits in the second game with Middle Tennessee and knocked her second homer of the day over the left field wall as the Blazers came up short, falling to the Blue Raiders, 4-2.
Warren sent her first grand slam of the season over the left field wall in the second game against No. 23 Marshall to give the Blazers the, 10-6, lead in the exciting come-from-behind win.
She rounded out the week with another long ball in the series finale with the Thundering Herd, sending a deep shot to dead center.
This is the first weekly honor the Blazers have received this season and this is Warren’s third of her career.
