Blazers Look to Keep Winning Streak Alive at Middle Tennessee

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB softball team hits the road Wednesday, May 3, as it travels to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to face Middle Tennessee in a rescheduled doubleheader set to begin at 3 p.m.
The Blazers and Blue Raiders were originally scheduled to play April 22-23 but with heavy rain that weekend, they were only able to get one game of the three-game series played. Middle Tennessee won the first game, 3-1.

THE SERIES
Middle Tennessee leads the all-time series with UAB, 6-3. The last time the two teams competed was April 22 after a six-and-a-half-hour rain delay.
The Blue Raiders jumped to an early, 3-0, lead and wouldn’t score any more runs in the game. The Blazers’ lone run came off the bat of Amy Waters when she doubled to centerfield to score Analyse Petree.
ON THE BLAZERS
UAB heads into the doubleheader with Middle Tennessee with a 10-9 conference record and a spot in the Conference USA Championships.
Destini England leads the Blazers offensively with a .279 batting average. The freshman outfielder also has a team-high 43 hits, 23 runs and 58 total bases. She has recorded seven triples this season which ranks her fifth in the nation and first in C-USA.
Analyse Petree is second on the squad with a .262 batting average and 16 RBI. The sophomore second baseman leads the team with a .393 slugging percentage and has tallied 32 hits, crossed the plate 13 times and recorded a team-high seven doubles.
Joanna Fallen continues to be consistent at the plate for the Blazers. The veteran outfielder is tied for first with five home runs and 18 RBI as well as being third on the squad batting .259. She’s second on the team with 38 hits, 57 total bases, 17 runs scored and a .388 slugging percentage.
Madison Millsaps brings power to the plate as well. The junior first baseman is tied with Fallen for a team-high five home runs and 18 RBI. She has scored seven times, recorded four doubles and has 48 total bases while slugging .384.
Claire Blount continues to lead the UAB pitching staff. The Pembroke Pines, Fla., native owns a 2.70 ERA and has an 8-10 record. She has pitched 11 complete games, recorded three shutouts and tallied 117 strikeouts in 145.0 innings of work.
SCOUTING MIDDLE TENNESSEE
Middle Tennessee enters the matchup with an 18-26 overall record and is 5-14 in conference play after going 0-3 against Marshall in a three-game C-USA series.
Precious Birdsong leads Middle Tennessee offensively with a .444 batting average, 56 hits, 65 total bases, a .516 slugging percentage and a .504 on-base percentage. She has crossed the plate 20 times, tallied 14 RBI and blasted one home run.
Cori Jennings runs the Blue Raiders’ pitching staff with a 2.34 ERA. The junior lefty has thrown 17 complete games, recorded 104 strikeouts and given up 51 earned runs in 152.2 innings of work.
A LOOK AHEAD
The Blazers will finish their regular season May 5-6 as they travel to Huntington, W. Va., to face the number one team in the conference, Marshall. A single game will be played Friday beginning at 1 p.m. and a doubleheader will be played Saturday with first pitch scheduled for noon.
