UAB Softball Hosts Conference Foe Louisiana Tech

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB softball team continues Conference USA play by hosting a three-game series against Louisiana Tech at Mary Bowers Field this weekend. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. and the series finale is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
UAB and Louisiana Tech are the two top teams in the West Division in Conference USA with the Lady Techsters standing alone in first place and the Blazers one game behind in second place. The weekend series will decide the first place team in the West Division.

THE SERIES
Louisiana Tech holds a 6-4 overall record over UAB. The last time the two teams met was in 2016 and the Lady Techsters won the series going 2-1 in Ruston, La.
ON THE BLAZERS
UAB enters the weekend coming off a 6-5 loss to Jacksonville State in 13 innings. Both teams were held scoreless until the ninth inning when they each scored two runs to knot the game at two.
The dueling squads each scored two more runs in the 12th inning to make the score four all before the Gamecocks took the 6-4 lead in the top of the 13th. The Blazers fought back and plated a single run in the bottom half of the inning but fell short, 6-5, to end the game.
Analyse Petree continues to lead the Blazers' offense with a .303 batting average. The sophomore short stop has accumulated 27 hits, 13 RBI and 11 runs so far this season.
Destini England owns a team-high 32 hits, 18 runs and five triples. The Hoover, Ala., native is batting .283 and is second on the squad with a .325 on-base percentage.
Joanna Fallen has amassed 28 hits this season, five of them being home runs and three being doubles. The senior left fielder has a .267 batting average and 15 RBI so far this season.
Molli Garcia is batting .231 in her first season with the Blazers. The junior college transfer has 21 hits, one home run and six RBI on the season. Not only is she a threat at the plate but she's a threat behind the plate as well. The junior catcher has caught seven runners stealing and has a team-high .981 fielding percentage.
Claire Blount leads the UAB pitching staff with a 2.73 ERA and 6-8 record. The freshman lefty has tossed eight complete games, recorded two shutouts and tallied 92 strikeouts in 107.2 innings of work.
SCOUTING LOUISIANA TECH
Louisiana Tech enters the matchup with a 23-14 overall record. The Lady Techsters are coming off a 15-0 win over Grambling State when they hosted the Tigers on Wednesday.
Taria Page leads Louisiana Tech with a .391 batting average and 33 RBI. She has seven doubles on the season and is slugging a team-high .696.
Jazlyn Crowder has a squad-high 40 hits so far this season and has crossed the plate 35 times. The sophomore has amassed 11 doubles, 18 RBI and five home runs along with being third on the team with a .315 batting average.
Preslee Galloway runs the Lady Techsters' pitching staff with a 10-9 record and boasts a 2.85 ERA. The sophomore right hander has thrown six complete games, recorded 88 strikeouts and only given up 42 earned runs in 103.0 innings of work.
