UAB Softball Set to Participate in Pair of Midweek Games

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB softball team will participate in a pair of midweek games April 4-5. The Blazers will host Jacksonville State Tuesday at 6 p.m. and will travel to Chattanooga, Tenn., to face the Chattanooga Mocs Wednesday at 4 p.m.

THE SERIES
The Gamecocks edge the Blazers 18-17 in the all-time series. The last time the two programs met was in 2016 when UAB defeated Jacksonville State 6-3.
UAB and Chattanooga will meet for the the 26th time in program history on Wednesday. The Blazers lead the Mocs 14-11 in the all-time series, however, Chattanooga captured the 3-0 win the last time the two teams faced each other in 2016.
ON THE BLAZERS
The Blazers enter the week 5-4 in conference play after defeating the WKU Hilltoppers, 2-1, in the weekend series.
Destini England leads the team with 31 hits and is second on the squad with a .292 batting average. She has five triples on the season, putting her in second place in the UAB record books for single-season triples.
Analyse Petree is coming off a big weekend against WKU. The sophomore infielder finished the series with a .444 batting average, four hits, one double and a .556 slugging percentage.
Joanna Fallen is tied for second on the squad with 26 hits. The veteran left fielder has 14 RBI and five home runs this season and is batting .260.
Claire Blount leads the UAB pitching staff with a 3.04 ERA and a 6-8 record. The freshman lefty has made 22 appearances, pitched eight complete games and tallied 85 strikeouts in 96.2 innings of work.
Cara Goodwin is coming off her best performance of the season this past weekend against WKU. She tossed two complete games and captured two wins against the Hilltoppers. The senior right-hander boasted a 0.44 ERA, pitched one shutout, gave up only one earned run and recorded 13 strikeouts in 16 innings pitched.
SCOUTING JACKSONVILLE STATE
Jacksonville State is coming off a 2-0 weekend series win over Murray State. The Gamecocks defeated the Racers 7-3 in the first game and 10-6 in the second.
Anna Chisolm leads the way offensively for the Gamecocks. The sophomore shortstop has a team-high 45 hits, eight doubles, eight home runs and 31 RBI. She also leads the squad with a .699 slugging percentage and .465 on-base percentage.
Whitney Gillespie controls the Jacksonville State pitching staff with a 1.21 ERA. The right-hander from Pelham, Ala., boasts a 12-3 record and has recorded 102 strikeouts in 115.2 innings of work.
SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA
Chattanooga went 0-3 against Samford this past weekend in a three-game Southern Conference series.
Ashley Conner leads the Mocs with a .349 batting average, 37 hits, eight doubles and 21 RBI. The junior has 57 total bases, slugs .538 and has a .431 on-base percentage.
Payten Price owns a staff-high 3.81 ERA and 7-12 record. The lefty has tossed nine complete games, tallied 84 strikeouts and one shutout in 110.1 innings pitched.
PROMOTIONS
Wellness Day - Free stress balls will be given away to the first 100 fans. There will be a wellness fair pregame. Staff of schools of health professions (public health, dentistry, nursing, optometry, medicine, health professions) are eligible for $3 group rate.
A LOOK AHEAD
The Blazers return home April 8-9 to host Louisiana Tech in a three-game Conference USA series. A doubleheader will be played Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. and the series finale will be played Sunday at 1 p.m.
