UAB Softball Travels North to Face Middle Tennessee

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB softball team travels to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to take on Middle Tennessee at Blue Raider Softball Field in a three-game Conference USA series. A doubleheader will be played Saturday beginning at noon and the series finale will be played Sunday at noon.

THE SERIES
Middle Tennessee edges UAB in the all-time series with a 5-3 overall record. The last time the two programs faced each other was in 2004 where the Blue Raiders defeated the Blazers, 6-5.
ON THE BLAZERS
UAB comes into the game with a 16-28 overall record and a 7-8 conference record. The Blazers hosted two midweek games and went 1-1 in them with a, 4-3, win over Samford in eight innings and a, 6-0, loss to No. 9/10 Washington.
Analyse Petree has had a successful sophomore campaign so far this season. She continues to lead the Blazers with a .283 batting average, a .425 slugging percentage and seven doubles.
Destini England upped her hit count this past week, bringing her overall total to a team-high 37. The freshman also leads the team with 20 runs scored and six triples through 44 games.
Joanna Fallen has been one of the most consistent players on the UAB roster. She is second on the squad with 35 hits, 16 runs, 15 RBI and a .400 slugging percentage.
Claire Blount leads the Blazers’ pitching staff in almost every category. She boasts a 2.81 ERA, tossed nine complete games, recorded two shutouts and tallied 111 strikeouts in 132.0 innings pitched.
SCOUTING MIDDLE TENNESSEE
Middle Tennessee enters the matchup with a 15-23 overall record and is 4-11 in conference play. The Blue Raiders are coming off a 2-0 win over Belmont.
Precious Birdsong leads Middle Tennessee offensively with 49 hits, 58 total bases, a .527 slugging percentage and a .508 on-base percentage. She has crossed the plate 18 times, tallied 14 RBI and blasted one home run.
Cori Jennings runs the Blue Raiders’ pitching staff with a 2.35 ERA. The junior lefty has thrown 15 complete games, recorded 85 strikeouts and given up 44 earned runs in 131.1 innings of work.
A LOOK AHEAD
The Blazers return home April 29-30 to host its three final home games of the season against UTEP. A doubleheader will be played on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. and the series finale will be Sunday at 1 p.m.
