Blazers Travel to the Bluegrass State to Face WKU

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB softball team will dive back into conference play this weekend as it travels to Bowling Green, Ky., to play WKU in a three-game Conference USA series April 1-2.

THE SERIES
UAB and WKU split the all-time series record 3-3. The last time the two teams met was in 2015 where the Hilltoppers captured the 3-1 victory over the Blazers.
ON THE BLAZERS
UAB is looking to bounce back after going 0-3 this past weekend in the College Preview Tournament. The Blazers fell to Mississippi State and Oklahoma twice.
Analyse Petree stays consistent at the plate and leads the Blazers with a .293 batting average. The sophomore is coming off an impressive showing in the College Preview Tournament. She finished the first game against Oklahoma with a double, a home run and slugged .750 on the weekend.
Lizzie Ryan is second on the squad with a .290 batting average. The Germantown, Tenn., native has scored nine runs on nine hits and has seen action in 20 games.
Destini England leads the team with 26 hits and 15 runs while being third on the squad with a .277 batting average. The freshman outfielder has three triples on the season and has stolen seven bases in 31 games played.
Freshman Claire Blount (6-7) continues to prove herself in the circle for the Blazers. She owns a 2.70 ERA, has 77 strikeouts, tossed seven complete games and has two shutouts in 90.2 innings of work.
SCOUTING WKU
Offensively, junior Jordan Mauch leads the Hilltoppers with a .302 batting average, nine home runs, 32 hits and a .613 slugging percentage. She is second on the team with 17 RBI and has seen action in all 37 games WKU has played.
Brittney Vaughn has been strong offensively for WKU this season. The Bowling Green, Ky., native leads the squad with 23 RBI and has the second-most hits on the season with 30. She is the only player to start all 37 games and is slugging .500 on the year.
Kathryn Downing has been carrying the load for the Hilltoppers this season. She has an 11-5 record and boasts a 2.15 ERA. The senior owns a team-high 64 strikeouts and opposing batters are only hitting .245 against her. She has tossed seven complete games and has pitched five shutouts this season.
A LOOK AHEAD
The Blazers will be back in Birmingham, Ala., April 4 as it welcomes in-state foe Jacksonville State to Mary Bowers Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
