UAB Softball Set to Host Pair of Midweek Games

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB softball team will host a pair of non-conference games on Tuesday and Wednesday against South Alabama and Lipscomb, respectively, at Mary Bowers Field.

ON THE BLAZERS
The Blazers enter the week with an 8-14 overall record and a 2-1 mark in Conference USA play after clinching the series over Southern Miss this past weekend.
Analyse Petree continues to lead the Blazers with a .320 batting average. The sophomore short stop has 16 hits on the season, four of them doubles and 11 RBI.
Destini England leads the Blazers’ offense with 20 hits and is second on the squad with a .282 batting average. The speedy freshman has already legged out four triples this season, something no Blazer has done since 2013.
Molli Garcia is coming off a huge weekend. She paced the UAB offense with a .571 batting average and a .625 slugging percentage. The Moreno Valley, Calif., native went 4-for-7 and crossed the plate twice in the series win over Southern Miss.
Claire Blount continues to let opponents know that she’s a force to be reckoned with in the circle. In the Southern Miss series, the freshman lefty tossed two complete games and boasted a 0.50 ERA. She gave up only one earned run and struck out 13 batters in 14.0 innings of work.
SCOUTING SOUTH ALABAMA
South Alabama comes to Birmingham with a 17-6 overall record and a 0-3 mark in Sun Belt Conference play after being swept by Georgia State.
MC Nichols leads the Jaguars’ offense with a .407 batting average and a .458 slugging percentage. She has tallied 24 hits, four RBI and has crossed the plate 11 times.
Kaleigh Todd is hot on Nichols’ heels with a .377 batting average and .449 slugging percentage. The junior from Bessemer, Ala., leads the squad with 26 hits and 19 runs scored.
Devin Brown controls the South Alabama pitching staff with a 1.23 ERA. The junior right hander has pitched nine complete games, six of those being shutouts, and boasts a 7-4 record. She has recorded 97 strikeouts and opponents are hitting only .160 off of her.
SCOUTING LIPSCOMB
Lipscomb owns a 17-7 record and is coming off a 1-2 weekend at the Memphis Tournament in Memphis, Tenn., falling to Indiana and Western Illinois in extra innings.
Caitlin Plocheck and Kasey Gibson are tied for a team-high 29 hits and 15 RBI. Plocheck also leads the offense with a .358 batting average, 15 runs scored, five home runs and a .642 slugging percentage.
Gibson is second on the squad with 13 runs scored, 38 total bases and three doubles. The senior also has a team-high three triples on the season.
Mandy Jordan leads the Lipscomb pitching staff with a 1.19 ERA. The sophomore from Camden, Ala., has tossed 12 complete games, pitched four shutouts and recorded 112 strikeouts in 94.1 innings of work.

A LOOK AHEAD
The Blazers travel to San Antonio, Texas, to face UTSA in the second conference series of the season. A doubleheader will be played Friday beginning at 3 p.m. and the series finale will be played Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m.
