Blazers Fall at Crosstown Rival Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women’s tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at crosstown rival Samford Thursday from the Samford Tennis Complex.
Samford won the doubles point and built a 1-0 lead following wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Elsa Pool and Grace Jennings defeated Hana Sisirak and Natalie Voss 6-2 at No. 3, while Savannah Wood and Arianna Beltrame turned in a 6-3 win over Sophie Dodds and Reghan Lynch.
UAB senior Pardis Kianoush earned the Blazers’ first ranking since 2001 on Wednesday when she checked in ranked 88th in the NCAA in the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis National Singles Poll. Kianoush responded by winning her first match since the announcement with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Wood at No. 1.
Sisirak was also victorious for UAB with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Nadine de Villiers at No. 4.
Samford tallied singles wins at No. 2, 3, 5 and 6 to claim the victory.
UAB returns to action Sunday at noon when the Blazers host in-state foe South Alabama from George Ward Park.
