UAB Falls to Sacramento State and Boise State on Second Day of Paradise Classic

HONOLULU, Hawaii - The UAB softball team fell to Sacramento State, 5-3, and Boise State, 4-2, on the second day of the Paradise Classic in Honolulu.
UAB 3, SACRAMENTO STATE 5
The Blazers recorded a game-high seven hits against Sacramento State but it wasn't enough as the Blazers fell to the Hornets 5-3.
Sacramento State (1-1, 0-0) took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning when Jessica Ravetti homered over the left field wall.
The Hornets wouldn't score again until the top of the sixth inning when Shelby Johnston scored on a fielder's choice and Nene Alas plated a run on an illegal pitch.
UAB's (0-2, 0-0) bats came alive in the first game with seven hits, despite scoring only three runs. Freshman Destini England led the Blazers off with a triple to left-center field for the first hit of the game.
Joanna Fallen had a fantastic game at the plate going 2-for-3 with one home run and one RBI single.
Molli Garcia also had a big game going 2-for-3. She hit a single to left field in the first inning and then blistered a ball over the left field wall in the fifth inning to tie the game at three.
Freshman Natalie Erwin had a multi-hit game as well going 2-for-4 with a single to right field in the second inning and a single through the left side in the fourth inning.
Cara Goodwin (0-1) got the loss for the Blazers in the circle. She pitched five innings and gave up four runs.
Celina Matthias (1-0) recorded the win for the Hornets. She tossed a complete game and struck out four while only letting three runs cross the plate.
UAB 2, BOISE STATE 4
UAB (0-3, 0-0) threatened in the final inning but couldn't push enough runs across to capture the win from Boise State.
The Broncos (1-2, 0-0) struck first when Rebekah Cervantes scored on a throwing error giving Boise State the early 1-0 lead.
The next Bronco run came in the second inning after Tatiana Sorokina singled to center field and drove in Cassidy Edwards to stretch the lead to 2-0.
The final two runs for Boise State came in the third inning after a throwing error and a Kora Wade single scored Cervantes.
UAB finished the game with nine hits but pushed only two runs across the plate.
Destini England, Analyse Petree and Natalie Erwin all had multi-hit games while Joanna Fallen, Molli Garcia and Madison Millsaps all had one hit each.
The first Blazer run came in the top of the seventh inning when Garcia singled to left-center and scored Erwin.
The second UAB run came a few batters later when Destini England scored on a wild pitch to make the score 4-2, which would end up being the final.
Megan Smith (0-1) took the loss in the circle today for UAB. She pitched two innings and gave up four runs.
Paige Reimann (1-0) captured the win for the Broncos. She recorded three strikeouts and didn't give up any runs in four innings of work.
The Blazers will take the field Saturday against Oregon State and Hawaii at 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., respectively.
