UAB Bowling Sits in Seventh After Day One

HOUSTON – The No. 21 UAB Bowling team got off to a hot start on day one of the Stormin’ Ladyjacks Invitational and sits in seventh place going into the second day of play.
“The team bowled phenomenal all day,” head coach Michelle Crews said. “They had a tough schedule having to bowl against four of the top-10 teams in the country. They bowled very consistent and their best single day at a tournament this season averaging a 200.0. We are excited to use what we learned tomorrow when we go into Traditional games. I am super proud of their execution and the intensity they showed today.”
The Blazers got off to a hot start in the first match bowling a 1,038 to Texas Southern’s 985. In match two, UAB took down No. 4 Sam Houston State by 20 pins, 992-972.
Match three proved to be the toughest of the day against No.1 Nebraska. Despite the Blazers bowling a season-high 1,045, the Cornhuskers overpowered them with a 1,143.
After falling to No. 1, UAB rebounded nicely to take down No. 2 Arkansas State, 1,020-989, in match four. In the days’ final match, the Blazers fell to No. 7 Stephen F. Austin, 1,065-909.
Overall UAB went 3-2 and squared off against the No. 1, No.2, No. 4 and No. 7 ranked teams in the country.
Play resumes tomorrow at 9:25 a.m. with the teams bowling five Traditional matches.
