UAB Softball Releases 2018 Schedule

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB softball released its 2018 schedule on Tuesday afternoon, one that features several marquee matchups throughout the non-conference and Conference USA play.
The Blazers open the season in Tampa, Fla., on Feb. 9 with a doubleheader against Michigan and Illinois State at the USF Tournament. UAB's home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 27 against Alabama at 6 p.m.
There are three games to highlight early on as UAB will host a Donate Life game on March 28 against Jacksonville State, a Fight Cancer Day on April 15 against Western Kentucky and Senior Day will be April 29 against UTSA.
UAB is heading into a new era under first year head coach Amanda Ellis after long-time head coach Marla Townsend was promoted to the position of Senior Associate Athletics Director for Strategic Initiatives and Engagement. Ellis will become just the second head coach in program history.
The Green and Gold return 14 letterwinners from last year's squad and add five newcomers for the upcoming season.

Non-Conference Slate
UAB will play its first 15 games of the season away from Birmingham with three out-of-state tournaments and one in-state tournament to start the season. The Blazers open the season with five games at the USF Tournament running from Feb. 9-11. UAB will face two NCAA Tournament teams from last season in Tampa, Fla., opening the first game of the year against Michigan and wrapping up the tournament with national runner-up Florida. The following weekend, UAB heads west to Cathedral City, Calif. for the prestigious Mary Nutter Classic. The Blazers will square off with 2017 WCWS qualifier UCLA while in Southern California.
The Blazers return to Alabama to play in the Troy Classic hosted by the Trojans in Troy, Ala. from Feb. 23-25. UAB will make its home debut against Alabama on Feb. 27 at 6 p.m.
The final regular season tournament UAB will participate in is the Red and Black Classic hosted by Louisville, on March 1-3.
Conference USA Schedule
UAB has four home series and four road series in conference play. The home slate is highlighted by a visit from 2017 NCAA Tournament qualifier Marshall (March 10-11). The Blazers also host Middle Tennessee (March 30-31), Western Kentucky (April 14-15) and UTSA (April 28-29). The four road trips will be to UTEP (March 17-18), Southern Miss (April 7-8), Louisiana Tech (April 21-22) and North Texas (May 5-6).
The Green and Gold finished with a 12-12 record in league play a year ago, good for second place in the Western Division and fifth place overall.
2018 Conference USA Tournament
Charlotte will host to the 2018 C-USA Tournament, which will run from May 9-12 at Phillips Softball Diamond in Charlotte, N.C.
Gold Card
For tickets, UAB fans have the opportunity to purchase a Gold Card which allows access to six different sports, including softball, baseball and women's basketball throughout the upcoming season.
A single admission Gold Card is $65, while a dual admission card can be purchased for $120, admission for three is $165, and a 4-pack of Gold Cards is $200. Fans who purchase a Gold Card will be given a membership card they show to gain admission into each specific event. Fans can purchase a Gold Card at the UAB Athletics Ticket Office located at Bartow Arena, or by calling 205-975-UAB1.
