NOTES:
- After achieving bowl eligibility for just the fifth time in program history last week with a 52-21 victory over Rice, the Blazers look for another program milestone this week. A win at UTSA would match UAB's FBS record for victories in a season of seven which was achieved by the 2000 team (7-4) and the 2004 team (7-5).
- Quarterback A.J. Erdely looks to follow up his record-setting performance from last week against Rice as he finished 20-of-21 for 197 yards and three touchdowns and set a C-USA record for completion percentage (95.2). Erdely was named the CFPA National Performer of the Week for his efforts as well as earning a Manning Star of the Week nod from the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
- Freshman sensation Spencer Brown and the offensive line will be tested in San Antonio as the Roadrunners boast Conference USA's No. 1 rush defense, allowing just 119.5 yards per game.
- Brown is the nation's second leading rusher among freshmen and became just the fifth player in UAB history to rush for over 1,000 yards last week when he went for 140 yards and three touchdowns vs. the Owls. Brown has rushed for over 100 yards in four of his last five games and is averaging 134.2 yards per game in Conference USA play.
- Cornerback Darious Williams has an active streak of four straight games with an interception. He is the only player in the nation with such a streak this season and will try to pick off UTSA quarterback Dalton Strum who has only thrown two interceptions this season.
- Strum and Erdely have eerily similar stats this season. Strum has thrown for 1,668 yards, 14 touchdowns and two interceptions, while Erdely has 1,692 passing yards, 12 touchdowns and two interceptions. Both are very dynamic in the running game too as Strum has 464 rushing yards and one touchdown, while Erdely has 264 rushing yards and an impressive 10 touchdowns.
- UAB is 19-of-30 on third down over its last two games and checks in this week ranking 8th nationally in third down conversion percentage (48.1). The Blazers have also done a great job converting in the red zone, scoring on 35-of-39 trips. Of those 39 trips, 29 have resulted in touchdowns.
- UAB was in the spotlight this week for multiple postseason award nominations. On Tuesday Shaq Jones was named one of 20 finalists for the inaugural Jason Witten Man of the Year Award. It was announced Wednesday that the Blazers have been nominated for the Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award.
- For UAB fans traveling to the game, the clear bag policy is effect at the Alamodome. The game is being played on Veteran's Day and UTSA will honor the military who serve our country.
