2017 BURLSWORTH TROPHY NOMINEES
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Senior linebacker Tevin Crews has been named one of 63 nominees for the Burlsworth Trophy, given to college football's most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on and has shown outstanding performance on the field.
The Burlsworth Trophy is in its eighth year and is named after former University of Arkansas walk-on Brandon Burlsworth who became an All-American offensive lineman. Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was the 2016 recipient of the Burlsworth Trophy.
"In the eighth year of this award, I continue to be in awe of the work ethic and determination of all our nominees." said Marty Burlsworth, CEO and founder of the Burlsworth Foundation and older brother of Brandon. "Beginning their college career as a walk-on and overcoming incredible obstacles is truly inspiring."
Crews is in the midst of a breakout senior campaign and leads the team in tackles with 67. His 8.2 tackles per game ranks 11th in Conference USA while he is also seventh in the league with 9.0 tackles for loss.
In addition, he has added one interception, one sack, one forced fumble and two pass breakups.
Crews leads the Blazers into action on Saturday when UAB hosts Rice at 2 p.m. for the Penn Mutual Salute to Service. A win would make the Blazers bowl eligible and improve their record to 5-0 at Legion Field.
