Blazers Welcome South Carolina for Senior Night

BIMRINGHAM, Ala. – With Conference USA Tournament implications on the line, the UAB men's soccer team welcomes South Carolina to BBVA Compass Field on Friday at 7 p.m.
UAB (5-6-4, 1-5-1) is coming off of a heartbreaking double overtime 2-1 loss at Marshall on Saturday but are in the midst of a five game home unbeaten streak.
James Teal has been a strong fixture in goal for the Blazers this season. The Chattanooga, Tenn., native ranks fifth in save percentage (.781), seventh in saves per game (4.3) and 13th in goals against average among freshmen keepers in the NCAA.
Massimo Ferrin, headlines a balanced offensive attack, leading the team in almost every scoring category including goals (5), points (11) and shots (36).
South Carolina (5-8-2, 1-4-2) is coming off of a 3-2 win over Old Dominion on Sunday and enters this match unbeaten in its last two games. The Gamecocks sit one spot ahead of the Blazers in the C-USA standings but have yet to win a game on the road this season.
Luca Mayr leads the South Carolina offense with six goals and six assists for a team best 18 points. Mayr ranks fourth in the league in both points and points per game (1.2).
In goal the Gamecocks have been led by William Pyle who has played every minute this season. Pyle ranks 11th in the country in saves per game (5.1) and 13th in total saves (77) but is behind Teal in goals against average and save percentage.
As for the conference tournament, a win by the Blazers secures them a spot in the seven-team field. The tournament is set to run Nov. 8-12 in Norfolk, Va., on the campus of Old Dominion.
Friday night is Senior Night at BBVA Compass Field with UAB honoring Rami Dajani, Evan Scarbrough, Ryan Sullivan, David Valverde and Chandler Stroupe. Pregame festivities will begin approximately 10-minutes before kickoff.
Additionally, Friday is a Gold Rush with the first 200 fans receiving a gold wig and soccer balls will be given away to the first 150 youth kids. One lucky student who has checked in with the Fired Up Rewards App this season will take home a scooter with the winner being announced at halftime.
