TEMPE, Ariz. – UAB women's tennis freshman Megan Bertrands is ranked 102nd overall in the latest Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis National Singles Poll.
Bertrands is the second Blazer to be ranked in the poll in as many years and is the fourth-highest ranked player in Conference USA. Current volunteer assistant coach Pardis Kianoush was ranked as high as 88th last season.
"We are all extremely happy for Megan," UAB head coach Mark Tjia said. "With almost 3,000 women playing Division I tennis, it is very difficult to break into the rankings. It is a great accomplishment, but I am even more proud of the growth and maturity she has undergone this semester as a player and a teammate. It is our goal to get more members of our team regularly in the rankings."
The Blazers open the spring season Jan. 19 with a trip to Memphis, Tenn., to face old Conference USA rival Memphis.
