Blazers Close Out Homestand Against Miles College

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women's basketball team looks to start 3-0 for the first time since the 1994-95 season as the Blazers close out a three-game homestand against Miles College on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Bartow Arena.
UAB (2-0) is coming off a 76-66 victory over Southern Illinois in which the Blazers improved to 20-4 in home non-conference contests under head coach Randy Norton. The Blazers also improved to 3-0 all-time against the Salukis.
The Green and Gold used a dominant third quarter performance to pull away in the game, outscoring the Salukis 25-13 on 50 percent (8-16) shooting from the field and an impressive 85.7 percent (6-7) from behind the arc. Sophomores Rachael Childress (29) and Imani Johnson (13) stole the show for the Blazers as each had career-high scoring nights in the win.
Through two games, Childress leads all UAB scorers averaging 25.0 points per game in a team-leading 33.5 minutes, while sophomore Angela Vendrell leads the team in rebounds with 9.0 boards per game and Deanna Kuzmanic has recorded a team-best five steals.
Miles College is coming off a 52-49 setback to Auburn University-Montgomery after opening the season with a 70-61 victory over Montevallo.
UAB is 2-0 all-time against Miles College dating back to last season when the Blazers took down the Lady Bears 106-48 on Dec. 28. The 58-point win is the second-largest victory in program history.
Fans in attendance will receive a superhero cape as the Blazers celebrate Superhero Night in Bartow Arena.
For tickets, UAB fans have the opportunity to purchase a Gold Card which allows access to six different sports, including women's basketball, baseball and softball, throughout the upcoming season.
A single admission Gold Card is $65, while a dual admission card can be purchased for $120, admission for three is $165, and a 4-pack of Gold Cards is $200. Fans who purchase a Gold Card will be given a membership card they show to gain admission into each specific event. Fans can purchase a Gold Card at the UAB Athletics Ticket Office located at Bartow Arena, or by calling 205-975-UAB1.
