Blazers Fall In Four Sets To Louisiana Tech

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB volleyball team dropped a four set match 3-1 (25-14, 17-25, 25-18, 25-20) on the road at Louisiana Tech Sunday afternoon.
Gabby Deshotel led the Blazers on the court as she scored nine kills, 13 digs and tallied a service ace. Deshotel played in all four sets for the Green and Gold and had a season high three assists.
UAB (9-12, 3-3 C-USA) had four girls tally six kills. Erika Zembyla had six kills, six digs and a service ace while Victoria Young also had six kills, four digs and three blocks. Abby Carlile and Emma Mitchell were the other two Blazers who had six kills.
Carlile added four digs and Mitchell earned two blocks and two digs.
The Green and Gold dominated in the first set on its way to a 25-14 first set win. The Blazers had a .240 attack percentage in the first while holding Louisiana Tech to just a .108 attack percentage. Louisiana Tech rebounded and won the second set 25-17 while improving its attack percentage to .444.
The Blazers hit just .147 percent in the second.
The offense continued to struggle in the third and four sets as UAB hit .105 in the third and .086 in the fourth. Louisiana Tech won the third set 25-18 and the fourth set 25-20.
Marta Monne scored a double-double for Louisiana Tech with 19 kills and 13 digs. Brooke Short had 42 assists and two service aces for the Bulldogs.
UAB will return home for a four-game home stand staring Friday, Oct. 13 against Western Kentucky. First serve on Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
