ATLANTA – The UAB men's soccer dropped a tough decision on Tuesday night, falling t Georgia State 4-1 on the road at the GSU Soccer Complex.
"This was the first game where I thought we were poor," head coach Mike Getman said. "We made simple mistakes to give up all of the goals and ended up losing a game we had control of. The one good note was that our guys never stopped fighting until the end."
The Panthers netted their first goal at the 30-minute mark when Rashid Alarape netted a cross inside the box from Alex Summerfield to give Georgia State a 1-0 lead.
Georgia State added a second goal just seven minutes after the halftime break when Max Hemmings received the ball at the top of the box after a free kick. Hemmings second goal of the season made the score 2-0.
Four minutes later the Panthers found the back of the net for the third time when Hemmings picked up his second goal of the night, making the score 3-0. The shot from the deep right side of the field deflected off the UAB defender and past the diving James Teal.
Georgia State's final goal came off the foot of George Proctor in the 76th minute from the same spot that Hemmings netted his first shot, extending the Panther lead to 4-0.
UAB did not give up as the Blazers scored their lone goal of the night when Donovan Watson headed a pass to the streaking Matheiu Laurent to cut the deficit to 4-1 in the 83rd minute.
For Laurent, it was the first goal of his career while Watson tallied his second career assist.
The Blazers continue their non-conference dip when they welcome Central Arkansas to BBVA Compass Field on Saturday Oct. 7 for Homecoming. Kick between the Blazers and Bears is slated for 7 p.m.
There will be one-way free shuttle for fans following the conclusion of the UAB Football game on Saturday. Riders will be picked up outside the gates of Legion Field and dropped off at the entrance of BBVA Compass Field.
