UAB Hits the Road to Battle UTSA and WKU

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB volleyball team will be on the road this weekend as it travels to UTSA for a match on Friday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. CT and conference leader WKU on Sunday, Oct. 29. First serve on Sunday is at noon.
The Blazers are riding a two-game winning streak going into the weekend with four set wins over Florida A&M and Middle Tennessee. Petra Silic led the Green and Gold to the win over Florida A&M with 11 kills and nine blocks.
Gabby Deshotel spurred UAB to victory over Middle Tennessee by scoring her fifth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 14 digs. Freshman Shelby Holderfield tallied 45 assists against Florida A&M and had 36 assists versus Middle Tennessee.
Three Blazers recorded double digit kills against Middle Tennessee as Silic had 11, Deshotel had 10 and Haley Jared added 10 along with three service aces.
UTSA heads into the weekend on a two-game skid, losing to conference foes WKU and Rice on the road. The Roadrunners currently sit in fifth in the C-USA standings with a 5-3 conference mark. UTSA has dominated the series historically with an 8-1 advantage over UAB.
UAB and WKU will meet for the second time this season after the Hilltoppers knocked off the Blazers in straight sets on Oct. 13. WKU has won 19 straight matches and sits atop the C-USA standings with a 9-0 conference record. UAB has the edge in the series 21-8, but WKU has won the last five matches since 2014.
Both matches will be available to stream on C-USA TV.
