UAB Men’s Soccer Hosts Lipscomb in Final Non-Conference Match

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Winners of its previous two matches, the UAB men's soccer team welcomes Lipscomb on Tuesday night to wrap up non-conference play for the 2017 season. Kick between the Blazers and Bisons is slated for 7 p.m. from BBVA Compass Field.
UAB is coming off a 2-0 victory over Conference USA foe Florida Atlantic on Oct. 21. Defender Mathieu Laurent and forward Tarnue Tyler found the back of the net while keeper James Teal tallied six saves in his fourth shutout of the season.
Teal has been hot as of late with a career high six saves in four consecutive matches. Among freshmen goalies in the NCAA, Teal ranks fourth in total saves (55), fifth in save percentage (.786), seventh in saves per game (4.2) and 13th in goals against average (1.12).
Offensively UAB has gotten contributions from all over the field as 10 players have found the back of the net while nine players have pitched in at least one assist. Massimo Ferrin leads the team with five goals and 11 points.
UAB is 3-1-3 at home this season and is outscoring opponents 8-5 with seven different Blazers contributing in in the scoring efforts. In addition, UAB is looking to remain unbeaten in non-conference home games for the first time since 2014.
Lipscomb enters Tuesday's contest with a 9-6-0 overall record and is coming off an impressive 3-2 victory at Kentucky. The Bisons' 27 goals this season is good for the 28th most in the country while they boast the 35th best scoring offense.
Logan Paytner leads the Lipscomb offense with seven goals, good for the 56th most by a player in the NCAA, and 17 points this season.
Christopher Zappia has been a constant in the net playing every minute this season. He ranks 32nd in the country in total saves (60), 48th in minutes played (1377:41) and 57th in saves per game (4.0).
UAB and Lipscomb are meeting for the fifth time in program history with the Blazers holding a 3-1-0 record. The last meeting saw the Bisons take their first victory in the series with a 1-0 win on Oct. 11, 2016 in Nashville.
Tuesday night is 'Take Me Back Tuesday' at BBVA Compass Field with a throwback themed night. The first 200 fans in attendance will receive a pair of throwback Blazer socks. Tickets are available for purchase at the entrance to BBVA Compass Field and are $5 for adults and $3 for kids 18 and under
