BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men's soccer team takes a break from conference play Tuesday night, Oct. 16, as they welcome Georgia Southern to BBVA Compass Field. Kick is set for 7 p.m. CT.
The Blazers are coming off a 2-0 road defeat to New Mexico. UAB keeper James Teal tied his career high with six saves in the loss. The redshirt freshman keeper has been consistent all season long and ranks eighth among freshmen in the NCAA with 43 saves.
UAB now holds a 3-5-3 overall record while residing at 0-4-1 in the league. The Blazers have been competitive at home, dropping only one game to nationally ranked FIU while forcing three other contests into overtime.
Following freshman Aidan O'Hara's his first career goal in a 2-0 win against Central Arkansas on Oct. 7, eight different Blazers have tallied goals on the season, including Rami Dajani's two. With five regular season games remaining, Dajani needs just five goals to break into the top-10 in career goals in program history.
Tuesday's game is the first of a three game home stand, as Florida Atlantic (Oct. 17) and Lipscomb (Oct. 21) round out the October portion of the home schedule. Both kicks are slated for 7 p.m.
Georgia Southern enters Tuesday's contest with a 6-5 overall record. The Eagles score and allow 1.2 goals per game. They are coming off a 1-0 victory over Campbell on Oct. 11.
Javier Carbonell leads the offensive attack with six assists and 10 points. He ranks 17th in the NCAA in assists per game (0.6) to go along with the 26th most assists in the country.
UAB and Georgia Southern are meeting for the fourth time in program history with the Blazers holding a 2-0-1 advantage. The last match on Aug. 26, 2012 resulted in a 2-1 Blazer victory.
Tuesday night is Tropical Tuesday at BBVA Compass Field and fans are encouraged to dress in their best Hawaiian attire. Students are invited to attend a prematch tailgate beginning at 6 p.m. with complementary Full Moon.
The match also features Faculty and Staff Appreciation with $3 tickets available with a UAB ID. The first 300 fans in attendance will receive a complementary UAB coaster. Tickets are available for purchase at the entrance to BBVA Compass Field.
