Blazers Fall 2-0 at New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Despite a career high in saves from keeper James Teal, the UAB men's soccer team fell 2-0 at New Mexico Saturday night at the UNM Soccer Complex.
"I thought we weathered the storm in the first half and then controlled the game in the second," head coach Mike Getman said. "However, we made two defensive mistakes and gave the game away. Give New Mexico credit, they are hard to beat at home but we have to stop making defensive mistakes."
After being tied 0-0 at the half, UAB kicked a New Mexico cross into the Blazers' goal to give the Lobos at 1-0 lead just two minutes after the break.
The game would remain 1-0 until the 74th minute when Antoine Vial found the back of the net off of a Simon Spangenberg cross to put New Mexico ahead 2-0 and secure the victory.
Teal tied his career high in saves with six. The freshman has collected 12 saves over the previous two games.
New Mexico led the Blazers in shots with 19 to the Blazers 12 and in shots on goal, eight to UAB's five.
UAB returns home Tuesday night to host Georgia Southern. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. from BBVA Compass Field.
