Fallen Tabbed Preseason All-Conference

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB softball senior Joanna Fallen was named to the Conference USA Preseason All-Conference Team and the Blazers were selected to finish second as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Fallen, a right-handed outfielder, was one of 15 selections to earn preseason all-conference honors. The Prattville, Ala., native enters her fourth and final season with the Blazers and will be one of eight seniors on the team.

“We are thankful to have her consistency throughout her career be recognized by other C-USA coaching staffs, head coach Marla Townsend said. “We are looking forward to an outstanding and productive year from JoJo.”

Fallen was one of only four players that started all 59 games last season. She finished with a .352 batting average and led the team with 14 doubles. Overall, Fallen had 62 hits, 31 runs and 27 RBI in 176 at-bats.

Florida Atlantic was tabbed as the preseason favorite to win the regular season title with 10 first place votes. Marshall, who received one first-place vote, Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss round out the third through fifth place positions behind the Blazers, who were selected to finish second.

UAB opens the 2017 season Thursday, Feb. 9 and the C-USA Softball Championships will be May 10-13 in Hattiesburg, Miss.
