TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The UAB women’s tennis team suffered a 4-0 setback Sunday morning to the University of Alabama at the Roberta Alison Baumgartner Tennis Facility.
Alabama (1-0) won the doubles point and built a 1-0 lead after claiming victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 position.
Juliana Valero put the Crimson Tide ahead 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Taylor Factor at the No. 5 singles position. Joanna Saava tallied the third point for Alabama following her 6-0, 6-0 win over Natalie Voss at No. 6.
Danielle Spielmann clinched the win for Alabama with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Reghan Lynch at No. 3.
“Alabama looks awfully good this year,” UAB head coach Mark Tjia said. They play with a lot of power and make you pay for any remotely weak ball. I thought we struck the ball well for the most part and played better in doubles than we did on Friday. We have a few days to improve before heading to Memphis on Friday.”
UAB returns to action Friday at 9 a.m. when the Blazers face Memphis on the road.
