THE BLAZERS
The Blazers (19-33, 10-17 C-USA) go into the final Conference USA series of the regular season fighting for a spot in the C-USA Baseball Championship. Six teams have already punched their tickets to the tournament and two spots remain.
HICKLEN LEADING THE OFFENSE
Redshirt freshman Brewer Hicklen was 2-for-4 Tuesday night at Auburn. The night at the plate upped his average to a team-leading .291 with 55 hits and 24 RBIs. He is posting a team-best .418 slugging percentage and .416 on-base percent- age.
PHARIS IN THE C-USA
Freshman first baseman Carter Pharis is hitting .323 with 31 hits and 18 RBIs in Conference USA play. The right-handed hitter has doubled six times and tripled once. He has started all 27 C-USA games and holds a .391 on-base percentage.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
After a 15-minute first inning, followed by a six-plus hour rain delay, Charlotte rallied with four runs in the top of the eighth inning to double up UTSA 4-2 on Saturday taking both games in the weekend series. Sunday's finale was cancelled due to rain. The 49ers moved to4-1all-time at UTSA.
Charlotte tied a program record with three road victories against top-25 teams back on Friday, April 29th after their 1-0, game two victory at #15 Rice. That win became the third of the season after winning two-of-three earlier in the year at #12 Florida Atlantic. The initial record was set back in 2003 as the Niners swept a road series at #23 Southern Miss. The overall record for most wins in a season stands at four adding a home victory over TCU back on May 9th of 2003. The 49ers now have 18 victories as a program over top-25 competition.
Sophomore Josh Maciejewski put together a career afternoon on Sunday, April 24th tossing a complete game, one-hitter in a 5-0 shutout of C-USA foe Marshall. Maciejewski faced the minimum in six of his nine innings that saw him retire 12-in-a-row at one point with a stretch of sitting down 21 of 22 during innings two through eight. The lone hit surrendered was a leadoff bunt single in the top of the rst that a double play ball helped erase. The southpaw threw 17 rst-pitch strikes in his career best outing that saw him fan seven Herd. It was Charlotte's rst complete game shutout since Sean Geoghegan did the same on the exact same date back in 2015. It marked C-USA first one-hitter since April of 2012.
