Blazer Trio Earns All-Conference Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB softball seniors Caitlin Attfield and Ashley Johnson and junior Mary Warren have earned All-Conference USA honors, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
Attfield and Warren led the way, earning First-Team All-Conference honors. Attfield earned her fourth consecutive All-Conference honor with the selection, making her third postseason appearance on the first team. Warren’s selection marks the first of her career.
Johnson’s impressive season behind the plate earned the senior a spot on the All-Conference Second Team as she earned the first postseason accolade of her career.
Attfield closed her senior season with a .357 average, .418 on-base percentage, 65 hits, three triples and 38 runs scored, leading the team in every category. The shortstop closed her final regular season in a Blazer uniform breaking seven career records, while becoming the first Blazer to be professionally drafted by the NPF as she was selected ninth overall by the Dallas Charge earlier this season.
Designated player Warren slugged through conference competition to a breakout junior season. Warren closed the regular season leading the team with a .571 slugging percentage with 10 home runs and 32 RBIs. In league games, Warren ranked fourth in the conference with a .420 average and third with a .754 slugging percentage, while driving in the second-most RBIs with 23.
Johnson shined in conference play with a .306 average over 24 contests. The catcher knocked 22 hits to score 22 runs and plate 17 RBIs. Johnson slugged a .486 clip with four doubles and three home runs. Behind the plate this season, Johnson recorded two pickoffs and threw out 18 base stealers, the second-most in the league.
UAB opens the 2016 Conference USA Championship during Thursday’s quarterfinals. The Blazers play the winner of game four at 4:30 p.m. CT in Denton, Texas.
