UAB Softball Readies for Midweek Tilt

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB softball team begins a five-game slate with back-to-back midweek contests as the Blazers host Chattanooga on Tuesday before traveling to Ole Miss for a Wednesday showdown on the SEC Network.
The Blazers face Chattanooga on Tuesday in UAB's final home midweek contest of the 2016 regular season. First pitch at Mary Bowers Field is set for 4 p.m. CT. Fans can follow along with the action with live streaming and live stats available at UABSports.com.
Wednesday, UAB takes on (RV) Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi, at 6 p.m. CT in a nationally televised contest on the SEC Network. Fans can also stream live stats at OleMissSports.com.
UAB leads the all-time series against both squads. The Blazers hold a 14-10 record over the Mocs, winning five of the last six meetings. In the short series history against the Rebels, UAB is a perfect 2-0, with the last meeting coming in 2013 as the Blazers defeated Ole Miss, 5-3, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The Blazers enter the midweek slate after sweeping their first Conference USA series of the season as UAB topped UTEP in El Paso, Texas. UAB now holds the top spot in the C-USA Western Division standings.
Senior Caitlin Attfield and junior JoJo Fallen lead UAB at the plate as both Blazers hold a .368 average, good for seventh and eighth place in the league, respectively. Fallen holds a .522 slugging percentage with 26 RBIs and has scored 28 runs this season.
Attfield leads the team in hits (56), fifth in the league, runs scored (34), 11th in the league, and on-base percentage (.442), eighth in the league. The shortstop continues to top the conference and ranks 11th in the nation as the toughest to strike out as she has recorded only three strikeouts in 152 at-bats.
Junior Cara Goodwin earned two wins in UAB's series sweep over UTEP to improve her overall season record to 12-7. The Cullman, Alabama, native has tossed 11 complete games and one shutout over 134.0 innings for a team-best 3.55 ERA. Goodwin has recorded 107 strikeouts, sixth most in the league, with opponents batting just .233 against her.
Chattanooga enters the midweek contest off a conference series win over Mercer.
The Mocs are led by Jordan Fortel's .346 average at the plate. Fortel has scored 27 runs and has knocked 15 extra-base hits with 27 RBIs this season for a .529 slugging percentage.
Cori Jennings leads Chattanooga's pitching staff with a 3.48 ERA and a 12-8 season record. Jennings has tossed 14 complete games and four shutouts over 122.2 innings pitched and leads the squad with 95 strikeouts.
Ole Miss brings a four-game win streak into Wednesday's contest after sweeping conference foe Arkansas.
With a .378 average, Hailey Lunderman leads the Rebels. Lunderman has scored 36 runs and driven home 15 RBI off a team-high 62 hits. The Rebel pitching staff is led by Madi Osias. Osias has posted a 3.32 ERA and a 17-6 record and has struck out a team-high 103 batters.
