Mary Warren Named C-USA Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After slugging her way to career highs at the plate, junior Mary Warren was named Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.
Warren notched multiple hits in three of the Blazers’ four contests this week and extended her reached-base streak to 15 consecutive games.
In UAB’s lone nonconference contest, Warren went 2-for-3, including a three-RBI home run, to drive home a career-high four RBIs as the Blazers topped the Gamecocks, 4-3, to earn the program’s and head coach’s Marla Townsend’s 500thprogram victory.
The designated player continued her tear against conference opponent Louisiana Tech over the weekend. In the series opener, the Ocoee, Florida, native notched only one hit but made it count as she slugged a solo home run.
The junior lifted the Blazers to victory over Louisiana Tech with her third consecutive game with a home run as Warren went 2-for-4 and tied her newly set career-high four RBIs. In the series finale, Warren tallied two more hits and two additional RBIs.
Warren closed the week going 7-for-13, ranking second on the squad with a .538 average and on-base percentage. The junior slugged at a massive 1.231 clip with three home runs, racking up three runs scored and 11 RBIs.
This is the first weekly honor the designated player has received over her career and is the fourth consecutive honor for the Blazers this season as juniors JoJo Fallen, Madison Hir and Cara Goodwin have been honored this season.
UAB returns to nonconference play Wednesday as the Blazers host in-state foe No. 3/2 Auburn in a rescheduled midweek contest at Mary Bowers Field at 4 p.m. CT.
