UAB Softball Welcomes Charlotte for Three-Game Series

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB softball team opens its home conference schedule Friday with a three-game series against Charlotte at Mary Bowers Field.
The series begins with a doubleheader Friday at 4 p.m. CT. Saturday's series finale is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. CT.

The Blazers currently rank second in the Conference USA Western Division after defeating Southern Miss in their opening series, 2-1. In conference-only games, UAB ranks third among the league with a 2.10 team ERA and has turned a conference-leading five double plays.
UAB enters the weekend after a nonconference loss to (RV) South Alabama on Tuesday, 3-1.
Junior JoJo Fallen enters the weekend as the reigning conference player of the week, the first weekly conference honor of her career. The outfielder leads the Blazers in batting average (.392), slugging percentage (.568) and on-base percentage (.459) and is tied with senior Sara Beth Williamson for the team lead in RBIs (12).
The Prattville, Alabama, native ranks seventh in the conference in batting average and 11th in on-base percentage.
Senior Caitlin Attfield leads UAB in runs scored (15) and hits (32). The shortstop has recorded just two strikeouts in 93 at-bats to lead the conference and rank 15th in the nation as the toughest player to strike out.
The Niagara Falls, New York, native tied Kristen McGrath's program record of 337 total bases. Attfield now is tied or holds outright six UAB career records (batting average, slugging percentage, runs scored, hits and assists).
Junior Cara Goodwin leads the UAB pitching staff with a team-low 3.90 ERA over her 23 appearances. The right-hander has struck out 74 batters to rank fifth in the league. In conference play, sophomore Megan Smith leads UAB with a 0.77 ERA, ranking fourth-best in C-USA.
Charlotte enters Friday's doubleheader with a four-game losing streak after dropping a midweek doubleheader to Western Carolina on Wednesday. The 49ers hold a 1-5 C-USA record after being swept by FIU in the conference opener and dropping the series, 2-1, to UTSA.
Haley Pace leads Charlotte in six offensive categories, including average (.348), hits (31), runs scored (20) and RBIs (27). Pace is tied for fifth in the conference in RBI production.
In the circle, Lexi Betancourt tops the 49ers' staff with a 2.16 ERA, fifth-lowest in the league, over 116 innings of work. Betancourt ranks third in the conference with 112 strikeouts and has issued just 44 walks.
