UAB Softball Faces South Alabama in Rematch Tuesday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Coming off a series win in the Conference USA opener, the UAB softball team begins a four-game home stand at Mary Bowers Field as UAB faces South Alabama in a midweek rematch Tuesday at 4 p.m. CT.

Tuesday marks the sixth game UAB has matched up against an in-state opponent and the second time this season the Blazers have squared off against South Alabama.
The programs met in the 2016 season opener when the Jaguars topped UAB, 4-0. South Alabama extended its lead in the all-time series, 10-2, with the victory.
UAB enters the midweek contest after opening the Conference USA schedule with a series win over Southern Miss.
Reigning Conference Player of the Week, JoJo Fallen ranks seventh in the league with a .394 batting average and 11th in on-base percentage with a .463 clip. Fallen earned conference honors after a 6-for-12 week at the plate with three extra-base hits and four RBIs. The junior is tied for the team lead with senior Sara Beth Williamson with 12 RBIs.
Senior Caitlin Attfield boasts a team-best 32 hits and ranks second on the team with a .356 average. The shortstop has scored a team-high 15 runs and has racked up five RBIs in the leadoff position. The Niagara Falls, New York, native leads the conference and ranks 17th in the nation as the toughest to strike out as she has recorded only two strikeouts in 90 at-bats.
Junior Cara Goodwin leads UAB in the circle with a 6-4 record and a team-low 3.89 ERA over 84.2 innings pitched. Goodwin ranks fifth in the conference with 73 strikeouts, while opponents bat just .241 against her.
South Alabama brings a four-game win streak into Tuesday’s contest after sweeping Louisiana Monroe in Sun Belt action last weekend.
Emily Messer leads the Jaguars with a .524 average at the plate. Messer leads South Alabama in five offense categories, including hits (44) and runs scored (26). Stephanie Pilkington is the Jaguars’ RBI leader with 19 total this season.
Coming off her first career perfect game against the Warhawks, Devin Brown leads South Alabama with a 1.87 ERA over 89.2 innings pitched. Brown has tossed 11 complete games and five shutouts, while opponents hit .174 against her.
The right-hander has issued just 43 walks and struck out 146 batters this season.
