UAB Falls in Tight Contest at Northern Arizona

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Despite a hard-fought match, the UAB women’s tennis team snapped its four-game win streak as it fell to Northern Arizona on Monday afternoon, 4-0, at the Aquatic and Tennis Complex.
The Blazers displayed their usual fight as they forced four tiebreaks; but it wasn’t enough to down the Lumberjacks.
In doubles action, Sophie Dodds and Reghan Lynch fell on court two, 6-2, before Pardis Kianoush and Elaine Simon dropped a 6-4 decision to the Lumberjacks’ top-ranked tandem on court one as NAU jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Meanwhile, on court three, Amy Lowther and Catherine Ragon were in a heated battled, but led, 6-5.
In singles play, the Lumberjacks extended their lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Lynch on court five.
Despite forcing three tiebreaks on courts two and six, the Lumberjacks were able to outlast the Blazers as they won, 4-0.
On court one, Kianoush battled Hanneke Lodewijks as they both claimed a set. Catherine Ragon earned a 6-2 win in the first set on court three, but trailed in set two, 4-6. Sophie Dodds also was knotted on court four as both she and Hailey Rochin claimed a set, while Dodds led, 2-1, in the third and final set.
