BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men’s soccer team and head coach Mike Getman announced Thursday it will host five spring matches in 2016, along with a pair of specialty games.
“I am excited about our spring game schedule,” Getman said. “These matches will provide a good challenge for us as we build towards the fall. The match against Memphis is always exciting because of our long standing rivalry. Playing so many matches on our new BBVA Compass Field will also help us as we get used to our new home.”
The Blazers open the spring season with a contest against Montevallo on Wednesday, March 2.
The following weekend, UAB hosts Lipscomb followed by a Monday matchup against Winstars, a soccer academy that focuses on professionally-centered soccer development, preparing elite players for U.S. Collegiate and worldwide pro-league competitions, on March 7.
UAB concludes March with a game against in-state foe West Alabama on Sunday, March 13.
The Blazers kick off April with a 7 vs. 7 tournament on Saturday, April 7 with matches set to run all day.
The Blazers close their match play with a game against its old Conference USA rival, Memphis, on Saturday, April 9.
The spring season will close on Saturday, April 16 with the annual UAB alumni game set for 2 p.m.
